Feel like you're missing out?

Do you ever wonder if Christianity is worth it? Perhaps you see other people your age group who don’t go on with God and they seem to have a better life than you do, while you miss out on it all. Sometimes you feel like just packing in everything that you have stood for, and just getting on with enjoying your life!

I know exactly what it feels like! I’ve felt like that too, and I’d say it’s a pretty common feeling (especially amongst younger Christians).

I think the biggest problem is the fact that we try and conquer these feelings by telling ourselves (and others) that we aren’t missing out on anything. This is where we make our mistake! When we try to convince ourselves that we aren’t missing out, we actually ignore the truth. It’s obvious that you (and I) are missing out on certain things. We miss their parties, nightclubs, drinking, dancing, etc - but notice I didn’t say you were missing all the fun, because you are not!

Their lives are not fun. It might seem like its fun, but that’s only because they’ve done a good job of covering up what goes on behind the scenes.

Let’s face it. There are times when they have their ‘fun-filled’ moments. They manage to block out everything from their minds and have a ‘real good laugh’ (usually at something wrong by the way!). Then what? It’s over and inside they are still miserable and left with the same empty feeling they had in the first place.

Can I prove this? I sure can!

You don’t have to look too hard to find lots of people who are lonely, depressed, hurt, confused, ashamed etc. Notice they aren’t happy!! If you talk to them you will discover they weren’t always this way. They once enjoyed the ‘thrill of life’, but now they have realized that thrill wasn’t a real thrill and they’ve been ‘stung’ by their own choices.

You won’t have to search too long before you find lots of people who thought they had found true love. Everything was so great and now they have been left with hurt, heartache, guilt and shame (and very often, an unwanted kid as well). And it doesn’t just happen to the young ‘inexperienced’ people; the number of families that have been spilt by divorce is quite shocking!

Again you don’t have to look too hard to find other people who are no longer enjoying their thrills! People who once thought drinking and/or using drugs was a great thing are now addicted. They have no control over their addiction; it is no longer fun and enjoyable. In fact what was once the thrill of their life has now become the very thing that will probably kill them.

Think about it! Are you missing out?

Yes!!

You are missing out on all the sin and the consequences that come with it!

The sad thing is that there are so many young people who haven’t been ‘stung’ yet. They think that their lifestyle is cool. They really enjoy the so called pleasures of this life. And when you try to warn them about what will happen, they always say ‘not me’, ‘I’ll be ok’. But if talk to them in a few years time, you will hear about their painful experiences and their shattered dreams.

If only more people would realize this world doesn’t offer anything but heartache. Happiness and satisfaction can only be found in Christ Jesus.

Consider this- everyone is missing out on something!!

You miss the ‘so called fun’ and by doing so miss the heartache and tears. They miss the peace and satisfaction that comes from knowing Christ and sadly, in the end, if they don’t turn, they will also miss Heaven.

I’d rather miss the consequences of sin! Wouldn’t you!

Remember walking with God is the only way to avoid ruining your life.

Sin when it is finished bringeth forth death” (James 1:15)

Perhaps you will ask God to help you help others miss the heartache too!
